The Berlin experimentation site was officially opened during IFA, the world’s largest trade fair for consumer electronics, which took place in Berlin from 6th until 11th September 2013.
Fraunhofer FOKUS demonstrated Smart City Services as well as Social Connected TV technologies on our booth in the IFA TecWatch hall. We invited visitors to the booth to test the first release of the “Smart City Guide” based on our HTML5 compliant web application. The interpretation and evaluation have provided meaningful results. We received a lot of very positive feedback about functions and features provided by our platforms that will help drive further developments. FOKUS has also performed experiments on a lab level to evaluate content enrichment for HbbTV. Work on this development is ongoing.
RBB and IRT also used the IFA to present second screen services developed in conjunction with editorial teams from RBB and ARD interactive services. The second screen service for ARD EPG is on-air and available nationwide, the rbbtext second screen is available via DVB-T in Berlin and Brandenburg. All you need to test the services are an HbbTV enabled SmartTV and a tablet PC or smartphone. Soon, RBB will begin recruiting households in the region to take part in field trials.
